Get to Know Our Team

At Figgy Farms, we wouldn’t be able to do what we do without our dedicated team.

We are here to help you learn about the sweetest local fresh figs.

We began planting and growing figs on our Penryn family farm that Chrissy grew up on. My brother Gordon and his son Gordy from Willow Creek Ranch encouraged us to follow in my father's footsteps to build our retirement farm.

We are both educators and enjoy growing figs on our little farm.

Figs are our specialty!

Chrissy grew up on the family farm learning from her father; Gordon Poulsen, Sr. and Gordon Poulsen, Jr. and his son Gordy Poulsen III.

Steve was raised in Gustine, Californa and worked on many farms growing up.  Working as the head fig grower he halls in the figs.  He is often seen out planting, mowing, and tending to our trees.

Figgy Farms - Penryn

Down on the Family Farm

Our family ranch has been in Penryn California since 1959 when my father Gordon Poulsen, Sr. began it. We originally had a pear orchard, cows, sheep, geese and always a vegetable garden. Growing up I would help my dad plant, irrigate, and harvest. At 19, I left to explore the world and returned back home in 2003. My brother Gordon Poulsen, Jr. owned the adjacent part of the original farm called "Willow Creek Ranch". He ran it with his son Gordy III.  Gordon shared his love and expertise of agriculture with us and we are sad to let you know he passed in May of 2023.   In 2014 he encouraged my husband Steve and I to plant figs as specialty crop.

We have found our niche!  We grow many varieties and enjoy keeping up the family traditions.

We are globally aware and run our farm by practicing working with the land in natural production. We do not use sprays on our Fig trees. We use naturally composted fertilizers, and practice conservative soil and water management through county grants.

Figgy Farms - Fig and Onion Spread

Prep time: 10 minutes

Cook time: 35 minutes

Ready in 45 minutes

This is delicious spread on crackers or a sliced baguette with a smear of blue cheese.  It can also be used as a topping for a wheel of warm brie.  It’s important to use a good quality aged balsamic vinegar in his recipe.

Ingredients:

 ¼ cup olive oil

¼ cup aged balsamic vinegar

1 large red onion, chopped

2 tablespoons white sugar, or to taste (optional)

2 cups chopped fresh Black Mission or Brown Turkey figs

Directions:

Heat olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat; stir onion in the hot oil.  Reduce heat to medium-low, cover saucepan, and cook, stirring occasionally, until onion is softened and caramel colored, 20 to 25 minutes.

Stir figs into onion; cook and stir until figs begin to lose their shape and have softened into onion, 10 – 15 minutes.

Pour balsamic vinegar into fig-onion mixture, cook until all the liquid has evaporated, 5-10 minutes.  Stir sugar, 1 tablespoon at a time, into fig-onion mixture until desired sweetness is reached.

Serve warm or chilled.
